LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF EDUCATION SUCCESSFULLY HOLDS ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR NEWLY ADMITTED STUDENTS
The Lagos State University (LASU) Faculty of Education successfully held its orientation programme for newly admitted students on Monday, 24th November 2025, at the Buba Marwa Main Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo,Lagos. The programme was organised to familiarise the new students with essential information that will guide them throughout their academic journey at the university.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, was represented by the Director, Lagos State University Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA), Prof. R. O. Okunleye, who warmly welcomed all students and formally declared the programme open. In her message, she reiterated the university’s commitment to student welfare, academic excellence, and a conducive learning environment.
The Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Gbenga Akindoju also addressed the students, offering words of encouragement. He welcomed students from all five departments within the faculty and urged them to pay close attention to the speakers, their lecturers, and the academic culture of the university. He encouraged them to aim for outstanding grades, uphold diligence, and cultivate habits that support academic success.
Goodwill messages were delivered by various Heads of Departments across the faculty.
The Head of the Department of Educational Management, Prof. Jide Pius Gbenu, advised the students to set strong academic principles that would guide their behaviour and performance. He emphasised the importance of adhering to university rules and maintaining exemplary conduct.
From the Department of Educational Foundations and Counselling Psychology, Prof. Ife Abodunrin challenged the students to strive for distinction and to be better than those who did not gain admission. He urged them to embrace positive change, remain focused, and dress modestly at all times.
Representing the Department of Language, Arts and Social Sciences Education, Prof. Akinola Jimoh reminded the students of their primary purpose for being in the University, which is their academics. He encouraged them to be hardworking, prepared, and to develop unique personal qualities, noting that society values individuals who bring fresh perspectives and innovation rather than outdated attitudes.
From the Department of Science and Technology Education, Associate Prof. Alabi Bukola encouraged the students to become creative thinkers and effective researchers. She advised them to take pride in being part of the Faculty of Education and never to feel inferior about their discipline.
A representative of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), Mr Bolaji Ojediran, commended the university management for its digital transformation initiatives, which have enabled students to complete clearance and other essential processes online. He urged the newly admitted students to conduct their registrations personally via the university’s digital platforms to avoid errors often made at external business centres. He also encouraged them to seek assistance from DICT and to work closely with their course advisers whenever necessary.
Representing the Chief Security Officer, CSP Oluwole Ojo (Rtd), Mr Babatunde Edu from the Security Unit provided crucial security tips to help students stay safe both on campus and within its environs. He advised them to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and make effective use of the university’s security structures.
A representative of the Directorate of Health Services was also present. Dr Akiode, standing in for the Director, Dr Nasir Ariyibi, offered health-related guidance aimed at helping students maintain physical and mental well-being throughout their studies.
Additional goodwill messages were delivered by the Head of the University Counselling Unit, Dr Joseph Ayeni, represented by Dr (Mrs) Oyediji, who reminded the students of the availability of counselling services and encouraged them to seek support whenever needed.
Executives of the Education Students' Society of Nigeria (ESAN) also addressed the gathering. They urged their fellow students to prioritise academics above all else, advising them to build a strong academic foundation in their first year before involving themselves extensively in social activities.
The closing remarks were delivered by the Faculty Officer, Mrs Modupe Obayomi-Davies, represented by Peincipal Assistant Registrar, Mr Peter Taiwo. After the formal session, the students met with their Faculty and Students’ Association Executives, bringing the programme to a close.
