'GREENER GRASSES'– THE SCOURGE OF THIS AGE- PASTOR GREG ELKAN.

Christians love eschatology and anything that has to do with the “End Times”. But while we get ourselves worked up trying to calculate the timing of the Rapture based on developments in the Middle East, the appearances of “blood moons”, the Covid-19 virus (and the implications of its ‘globally-mandated’ vaccine), etc. we ignore perhaps one of the most glaring evidence of the imminence of the end of the age: discontentment.

Paul, speaking with prophetic authority and clarity in 2Ti 3:1,2 says, _“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For People will be...lovers of money… and ungrateful”_ (KJV and ISV).

Ungratefulness and discontentment is definitely a trait of this age. This is the most privileged generation in all of human history, yet the most miserable. The ‘poor’ today own things that the rich never had just a few years ago.

I believe that Christians today have lost the virtue of contentment. We’ve become a generation of insatiable grabbers: ever being blessed yet ever seeking for more.

Perhaps it is an inadvertent result of the prosperity gospel, or the _“God answers every prayer”_ doctrine, or the emphasis of testimonies as “proofs” of God’s goodness. It’s hard to pinpoint where or how we made a biblical truth give us a harmful mentality, but one thing is certain: Christians today are increasingly dissatisfied with their lives and their lot.

Now, don’t get it wrong: there’s a difference between healthy aspiration and insatiable ambition; one is a search for _greener pastures,_ the other is a longing for the _greener grass_ on the other fellow’s yard.

Paul’s words in 1Ti 6:6-8 may sound harsh and insensitive to many of us today, but it is still a biblical truth:
_“Godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing let us be with these things content.”_

AMEN...
PASTOR GREG ELKAN.
