ANA CELEBRATES WOLE SOYINKA AT 92, HAILS HIS ENDURING LEGACY TO LITERATURE_ BY ANA MEDIA TEAM

The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has congratulated Africa's first Nobel Laureate in Literature, Professor Wole Soyinka, on the occasion of his 92nd birthday, describing him as a literary giant whose life, works, and unwavering commitment to justice have continued to inspire generations of writers in Nigeria, Africa, and across the world.

The congratulatory message was contained in a statement jointly signed by the President of the Association, Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi, and the Acting General Secretary, Wole Adedoyin. 

The Association noted that Professor Soyinka's immense contributions to literature, scholarship, democracy, and the defence of human dignity have earned him a permanent place among the world's most influential intellectuals and cultural icons.

ANA recalled with pride Professor Soyinka's memorable participation at its 44th International Convention, describing the event as one of the most historic moments in the Association's history. His presence at the convention attracted widespread admiration and added exceptional prestige to the gathering, transforming the event into a remarkable celebration of literature and the enduring ideals of creative excellence.

The Association further recalled that the convention brought together Fellows of ANA, distinguished scholars, established authors, and emerging literary voices from across Nigeria. 

Professor Soyinka's participation, keen attention to the proceedings, and warm interactions with members created an atmosphere of inspiration and reaffirmed his enduring commitment to the advancement of Nigerian literature and the development of younger generations of writers.

According to the statement, Professor Soyinka, while declaring some of the convention's activities open, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Association, observing that ANA had remained faithful to the vision of its founding fathers.

The Association noted that his commendation of the leadership under Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi served as a significant endorsement of the efforts being made to strengthen the association and sustain its relevance within the literary community.

ANA described Professor Soyinka as a fearless voice for justice, freedom, and creative expression whose literary accomplishments have projected Nigeria onto the global stage. 

The Association stated that his writings, intellectual courage, and lifelong advocacy for truth and human rights continue to serve as a guiding light for writers and advocates of social justice around the world.

As Professor Wole Soyinka marks his 92nd birthday, the Association of Nigerian Authors celebrates his extraordinary legacy and invaluable contributions to literature and humanity.

ANA prayed for his continued good health, strength, and many more years of impactful service, while reaffirming its commitment to preserving and promoting the ideals of literary excellence that he has consistently championed throughout his distinguished career.
