DIDACTIC: "SILENCE" BY CHRISTIANAH POSU

Not all silence is golden,
Some are the manifestations of evil,
Others are leniency,
Few are cowards,
A number of are broken,
Especially when the loud silence is not golden.

The golden silence; a well-planned adventure,
Some leads to salvation,
Others denounce trouble,
Few are challenging,
A number of are rewarding,
Especially when the loud silence is golden.

The poem "Silence" explores the different meanings and consequences of silence. The poet argues that silence is not always beneficial, as it can sometimes be a sign of evil, cowardice, weakness, or the refusal to speak against wrongdoing. Such silence can be harmful despite appearing calm on the surface.

On the other hand, the poem presents "golden silence" as a thoughtful and purposeful choice. This kind of silence can lead to salvation, prevent trouble, inspire reflection, and bring rewards. It is portrayed as a source of wisdom and strength rather than fear or indifference.

Through this contrast, the poet teaches that the value of silence depends on its purpose and context. While some forms of silence can cause harm, others can promote peace, growth, and positive outcomes. The poem encourages readers to distinguish between destructive silence and beneficial silence.
