ROMANCE: "LIGHT" BY ALAYE ROMZIAT
The wind was lonely that night.
It touched my skin so gently, as though it feared I too might break.
And there I sat,
a weary soul wandering endlessly through the labyrinth of life,
searching for a doorway that still remembered your name.
I have walked so long in this darkness
that even silence has begun to sound like home.
Yet somewhere within the ache of my ribs,
your light still burns quietly—
the only thing my dying heart refuses to forget.
Tell me…
if I wander too far from you,
will I lose the memory of your fragrance?
Will time rob me of the way your presence once felt
like warm sunlight resting upon trembling skin?
Will I become so lost
that even if you stood before me,
my soul would fail to recognize where it belongs?
Still, I keep walking.
Broken feet dragging themselves through destiny’s cruel roads,
through nights that swallow me whole,
through shadows that beg me to surrender.
Because the truth is—
every false light has only taught me how much darkness exists without you.
Everything else flickers.
Everything else abandons.
Everything else leaves wounds where comfort should have been.
But you…
you were the light I chased even before I understood what love was.
The soft glow at the end of my suffering.
The only prayer my heart repeats without ceasing.
I do not care how long eternity stretches its hands against me.
I do not care how many storms try to pull me astray.
If fate is merciful enough to guide me back to your path,
then every sorrow I have endured will become holy.
For in the end,
when the world grows cold
and every star forgets how to shine,
it is still you my soul will search for in the dark.
Because, the light I chased,
the light I will always chase—
was never heaven.
It was you.
