ENLARGEMENT MENTALITY: THE CATALYST FOR INCREASE_ BY PROFESSOR EGBOWON
TEXT:
2 Kings 6:1–7
MEMORY VERSE:
"Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go." — 2 Kings 6:3
INTRODUCTION
The passage presents the story of the sons of the prophets who developed an enlargement mentality. They were no longer satisfied with their present condition—the space they occupied had become too small. Rather than remain stagnant, they sought expansion.
They presented their idea to their leader, Elisha, who approved it. However, they went further to request his presence with them, and he agreed. During the process of cutting wood, an axe head fell into the river. The owner cried out because it was borrowed. Through divine intervention, Elisha made the axe head float, and it was recovered.
This story teaches that increase begins with the right mindset, is sustained through unity, and is secured by God’s involvement.
KEY NOTES
You cannot experience increase if your vision is small.
Enlargement mentality opens doors for growth.
Enlargement without God’s backing is like building a castle in the air.
OUTLINE 1: DREAMING BIG — A CATALYST TO INCREASE (Verse 1)
The sons of the prophets had stayed long enough to recognize limitation.
Their environment could no longer contain their growth.
They desired a bigger space and took initiative.
They consulted their leader, showing wisdom and order.
Lessons:
Do not be a dormant Christian.
Always think in terms of improvement and growth.
Refuse to be comfortable with stagnation.
Enlargement begins with a transformed mindset.
OUTLINE 2: YOU NEED TO FLOW WITH OTHERS (Verse 2)
Enlargement is not a solo journey.
They discussed among themselves before taking action.
Unity brought clarity and direction.
Their ideas were harmonized, not competitive.
Lessons:
Growth requires collaboration—both physically and spiritually.
Learn to consult, but avoid blind imitation.
Let your ideas complement others, not compete destructively.
Association plays a major role in acceleration.
OUTLINE 3: DO NOT LEAVE GOD OUT OF YOUR DREAM (Verses 3–7)
They insisted that Elisha go with them—symbolizing divine presence.
In the midst of progress, a crisis occurred (the axe head fell).
The man cried out, acknowledging his limitation.
God intervened through Elisha, and the impossible happened.
Lessons:
Never pursue growth without God’s involvement.
Challenges may arise even in the process of progress.
Always cry out to God in times of difficulty.
God is present and able to meet you at your point of need.

Consult and collaborate wisely.
Avoid being a copycat—be original but guided.
Do not leave God out of your plans.

If you want, I can also help you turn this into a sermon delivery version, PowerPoint outline, or short exhortation for a service.
