SATIRE: "ONE PARTY BY FORCE" BY MR RICHARD OYIBO

Why do we wait?
When the outcome is stamped,
And the unprinted ballot papers,
Have already been abused.

A by-force, one-party system,
Appearing like a rainbow,
Painted in democratic colours,
On walls whispering otherwise.

Campaigning by mouth,
The so-called obedient flowers,
All singing the same face,
In a song of familiar promises.

Speech stands rehearsed,
Microphones dim themselves,
As honesty approaches.
There is fear buried in truth.

Disagreements hold danger,
We must slip into our pockets,
To confide with safety,
As justice travels blindfolded.

They rally behind aged hands,
Cheering life, no longer there,
Blind to the cracks in his crown,
History whispers, repeatedly.

We are counted, not heard.
Governed, and not gathered.
Free, only on a piece paper,
Chained to our thumb prints.

The poem critiques a political system where democracy appears present but is manipulated and predetermined behind the scenes. It exposes fear, rehearsed speeches, suppressed dissent, and blind loyalty that silence truth and justice. Ultimately, it portrays citizens as counted but not truly heard—free only in theory, yet constrained by systemic control.
