ABSURDITY: "DEATH IS A DIVINE GIFT" BY GABRIEL WEAH

Death, some say you are heartless,
Some say you are forsaken—
But I have seen you as a gift.
I do not need you now;
My work here is unfinished.
Yet someday, I will be packaged
And delivered into your hands.

Death, you are a divine gift.
The only way to see our Father
Is when you hold our hands
And lead us to the heavenly ship.
You bring sorrow—yet joy waits at the end.

We all long to sit at our Lord’s right hand.
When the ship arrived seeking passengers,
Everyone tightened their faces
Like a traditional woman unveiling
Her kola nut before the crowd.
You cannot be seen,
But I hold a picture of you in my mind.

I was wounded by the names they called you—
Some say you are the devil’s blueprint.
But as I sit and ponder your purpose,
I count you a divine gift.
One day, I will call on you
To take me to my Maker.

The poet persona praises the arrival of death. The bard says death is the only way to meet The Almighty Father, God. The voice realises that death is not evil as it has been labelled by human beings.
