BILDUNGSROMAN: "A CHAMPION; WHO I AM" BY SULAIMON KHALID
When I sit
in the quiet of myself,
I see me; a boy
standing on higher ground,
bathed in claps, coated with praises,
with a trophy lifted
above his head, like a promise done.
I ask, How?
How does a dream so small
grow wings strong enough to fly,
find strength bold enough to walk?
But deep within, a voice answers:
That’s who you want to be; a Champion.
That’s who you have to be; a Champion.
That’s who you are; a Champion.
That’s who your nights wait long for,
who your mornings pray for,
who your heart beats toward,
who we all hope you become.
And someday;
that boy on the stand,
with the trophy shining in his hand;
you will be him.
The world will see the same Champion;
your dream has already shown you,
the Champion you already carry within.
