LINGUISTIC ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA AWARDS DR GANIU BAMGBOSE AT UNIZIK
Today, Wednesday October 22, 2025, at the opening ceremony of the 36th Conference of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria (CLAN), I was honoured with an Award of Excellence in Linguistic Practice.
The award is said to be a recognition of my contribution to the development of Nigerian English through my English for Today series. Getting this recognition and receiving this Award of Excellence 10 years after the commencement of my English for Today series and nine years since the creation of my GAB English Language Lab serves as a testament to the power of dedication and consistency.
I wish to make a three-way dedication of this award, first to my mother who taught me the basics of English grammar, next to my mentor, Professor Adeleke Fakoya, who exposed me to what English can do and what can be done with English outside the conventional classroom, and finally to everyone striving to make the world better in their little ways.
I thank the President of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria, Professor Imelda Udoh (FNAL, FLAN), other executive members of the Association, and all Nigerian linguists for this recognition.
Long live LAN!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
