"BANQUETS TO OBLIVION" BY SAVANNAH INKS
We left him there,
Under the mango tree.
We left them there,
Dreams that once propelled a life
Under the crooked, barren tree,
The fame we entombed,
The beauty we resigned to ants
Banquets for oblivion.
We left him there,
Under the mango tree,
Where silence inks his name,
And roots whisper tales unwritten.

The poem “Banquets to Oblivion” reflects on abandonment, memory, and the fading of once-vibrant dreams. It portrays a person and their aspirations left beneath a mango tree—symbolizing forgotten glory and unfulfilled potential. Through vivid imagery of decay and silence, the poem mourns how time consumes beauty and fame, turning them into offerings for oblivion.
