ANCESTRAL CURSES? READ THIS BEFORE YOU BLAME YOUR ANCESTORS!- BY CATHOLICSONLINECLASS
In our society today, many people have been convinced that every problem in their life, poverty, sickness, delay in marriage, barrenness, or failure, is caused by “ancestral curses.”
Prayer houses have turned this fear into a weapon:
“Your father’s house is caging you! Any curse from your ancestors, die by fire!”
People cry, roll on the ground, and go home believing that their ancestors are their greatest enemies. But is this really true?
Does the Bible teach that your great-grandfather can block your destiny?
The answer is NO.
The Word of God is clear:
“The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, nor the father bear the iniquity of the son. The soul that sins shall die.” (Ezekiel 18:20)
Your ancestors’ sins cannot chain you unless you let fear chain your own mind.
Jesus came to end that old belief system:
“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.” (Galatians 3:13)
If you live in Christ, no ancestral curse can touch you.
When you still believe that “something from the village” is holding you back, it is not your ancestors, it is your mindset.
Let’s be honest: many prayer houses have built their wealth and power on people’s fear of “ancestral spirits.”
The more they tell you that your ancestors are against you, the more you keep coming back, buying oils, sowing “deliverance seeds,” and living in fear.
But ask yourself:
If your ancestors hated you, would you even be alive today?
Did your great-grandmother’s prayers, struggles, and sacrifices not open the door for your existence?
It is disrespectful and spiritually dangerous to cut yourself off from the roots that gave you life.
This is why some people call on their ancestors in prayer, yet receive no answer.
When you spend all your time accusing them, binding them, and blaming them for your failures, it is like insulting your parents and then expecting them to bless you.
True African spirituality teaches respect for the ancestors who lived honorably.
Yes, some people in the past may not be “qualified” to be called ancestors because of how they lived or died, but that does not remove your lineage or identity.
Their mistakes cannot block your future, unless you allow fear, hatred, or laziness to block you.
Many people blame “ancestral curses” when the real issue is lack of hard work, lack of prayer, or poor decisions.
We use “ancestral curses” as an excuse for our own inaction.
In African culture, we honor our fathers and mothers, both living and dead.
Some of them lived holy lives, even if they were not officially canonized by the Church. They are like our unrecognized saints.
Think of St. Augustine. Before he became a saint, he lived in sin, far from God.
Imagine if we said:
“Because Augustine was a sinner in the past, I will reject him, curse him, and never call him a saint.”
Would that make sense? No!
We honor him not because of his past mistakes but because of the grace of God that transformed him.
Your ancestors, even those who made mistakes, may now be closer to God, praying for you. But when you spend all your prayers cursing them, you close your heart to their intercession.
What really blocks blessings? Sin, laziness, hatred, unforgiveness, and ignorance.
The devil uses fear and lies to make you believe your problems are inherited.
But the Bible says:
“If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
Instead of binding and cursing your ancestors, focus on breaking free from your own bad habits, renewing your mind, and walking in the grace of God.
When Jesus’ disciples asked about the man born blind, whether his suffering was because of his parents’ sins, Jesus gave a shocking answer:
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the works of God might be revealed in him.” (John 9:2-3)
This is the Gospel truth.
God does not punish you for the sins of your ancestors. You are responsible for your own life, your own choices, and your own relationship with Him.
Stop giving your ancestors a bad name.
Stop letting fear rule your mind.
Honor those who came before you, pray for them, and trust that Christ has redeemed you.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
No curse is stronger than the Blood of Jesus.
No ancestral spirit is greater than the Holy Spirit living in you.
When you change your mindset, you will see doors open that fear once closed.
God bless you 🙏
