A LEGACY OF LOVE: ALHAJI SAMINU AYINLA AJAKAYE'S DAUGHTER CELEBRATES HIM ON FATHER'S DAY- BY ABIODUN MOSHOOD O.

Rashidat Olamidayo Ajakaye recently celebrated her father, Alhaji Chief Saminu Ayinla Ajakaye, on Father's Day, June 15, 2025. The Olusehinde family of Ijagemo Town, Iba, lost a legend on January 29, 2025, just one month and thirteen days shy of his 90th birthday.

Alhaji Chief Saminu Ayinla Ajakaye was a remarkable individual who held several titles, including Olori-Ebi of Iba, Bobagunwa of Iba Land, Atobajaye of Igbesa, and Mayegun of Igando Land. He was a multifaceted personality - a tailor, fisherman, hunter, cobbler, and land broker. Throughout his life, he built over 45 houses and several mosques, leaving a lasting legacy.

After his passing, his eight wives observed a four-month and ten-day mourning period. On June 10, 2025, Alhaja Adunni Olanrewaju Ajakaye and the other wives marked the end of their mourning period with traditional and Muslim rites.

Rashidat Ajakaye paid tribute to her late father on Jordan FM, a popular Nigerian radio station. She wrote a heartfelt poem, which was read on air, highlighting her close relationship with her father. She also praised his ability to balance religion and culture, noting his commitment to his traditional title as a Chieftain father.
During the radio session, listeners called in to discuss the meaning of Alhaji Chief Ajakaye's traditional title "Bobagunwa." According to Rashidat, "Bobagunwa" means "one who helps the king to ground his character," implying a trusted advisor role. Callers offered their interpretations, with some describing the Bobagunwa as the king's right-hand man or the one who puts everything in order in the kingdom.

Rashidat Ajakaye wished her father a happy Father's Day in heaven and celebrated the wives of the late Chief Ajakaye, who had just completed their mourning period. She prayed that the family would find the strength to carry on his great legacy.
The celebration of Alhaji Chief Saminu Ayinla Ajakaye's life serves as a reminder of his enduring impact on his family and community. As his loved ones continue to honor his memory, his legacy will live on. We pray that Alhaja Adunni Ajakaye, the other wives, and the entire Olusehinde family receive the strength to continue the rich legacy of Olori-Ebi of Iba Land, Alhaji Chief Saminu Ayinla Ajakaye. May his memory inspire future generations.
