VOICES OF TOMORROW UNLEASHED: CORPS MEMBERS EMPOWER STUDENTS THROUGH PUBLIC SPEAKING IN IJEBU-ODE LOCAL GOVERNMENT- BY ABIODUN MOSHOOD

In a groundbreaking initiative, the Corps Members of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Ogun State, recently embarked on a One-Week Educational Community Development Service (CDS) Program, financially sponsored by the Local Government Chairman, Honourable Dare Alebiosu, to transform the lives of students across eight esteemed Senior Secondary Schools. The program, aptly themed "The Role of Reading Culture and Productive Style in the Conflicting Conditions of Technology," was a resounding success, thanks to the visionary leadership of the CDS President, Mr. Akinjetan Hammed Emmanuel; the tireless efforts of the Financial Secretary, Miss Rashidat Olamide Ajakaye, and other executive members. This social engineering programme was also approved by the Local Government Inspector of Ijebu-Ode, Mr Ayo Falowo.

From May 19th to May 23rd, 2025, the Corps Members brought their A-game, engaging students in Intra-School Public Speaking Competitions that tested their oratory skills, creativity, and knowledge on the specified topic. The competitions were held at Counted Generation (Monday), Hope Immaculate (Wednesday), Great Foundation (Wednesday), Moslem Comprehensive College (Wednesday), Ijebuode Muslim College (Wednesday), AGGS (Thursday), Gloria Schools (Thursday), and Leaders College (Friday).

Three students from each participating school showcased their exceptional speaking skills and content expertise, leaving the audience in awe. The grand winners received medals, while the other participants were awarded certificates of participation, a testament to their hard work and dedication.

In a heartwarming gesture, the Financial Secretary, Miss Rashidat Olamide Ajakaye, gifted select students copies of her published book, "Shattered Shadows of Youth." This thought-provoking book tackles the pressing issues affecting the 21st-century generation, including poor environment, misuse of technology, impatience, hypocrisy, and poor parenthood. Her words of wisdom resonated deeply with the students, as she emphasized the importance of positive role models and warned against the detrimental effects of negative influences.

The CDS President, Mr. Akinjetan Hammed Emmanuel, delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the significance of public speaking in various aspects of life. He stressed that mastering this vital skill can lead to increased credibility, improved relationships, and enhanced opportunities for personal and professional growth. The President encouraged the students to cultivate a reading culture, study hard, and strive for excellence, citing his own journey as a testament to the power of dedication and hard work.

As the CDS Program comes to a close, the impact of this initiative will undoubtedly be felt for years to come. The Corps Members have not only empowered students with essential skills but also instilled in them a sense of purpose and responsibility. As the students return to their classrooms, they carry with them the knowledge, confidence, and inspiration to become the leaders of tomorrow.
