POETRY OF CONSCIOUSNESS: "FACE DOWN IN THE DUST” BY ABIODUN MOSHOOD
Hope fades as darkness gathers.
We cry out for change for true leaders,
Who will serve the people, not just few,
But rather, rule with no political clue.
The future uncertain, the present unclear.
We live with panic, we live with fear.
Graduates flee, with dreams anew.
Good job scarce, opportunities few.
The best and brightest, seek greener pasture,
Abroad, they find a balanced posture.
Their skills and knowledge put to better use,
While Nigeria suffers in vicious muse.
Nigeria, face down in the dust.
A Nation struggling in a troubled trust.
Nigerians resilience in the face of strife,
Find ways to suurvive in a difficult life.
Leaders plunder, while people die in hunger.
There is loss of sympathy, no words to utter.
The system fails, the future unsure.
A generation lost, with hope obscure.

The poet persona laments over the heaviness of darkness over the willingness of hope and hardwork in Nigeria. The voice says abroad is the only means of Nigerians becoming fulfilled. The speaker also unveils the ineffectiveness of the leaders to make the country better.
