DUET ON HOPE POEM: "PRISONER OF MY PAST" BY AJAKAYE STRIDA AND YUSHAB ABOLORE
My past is extremely close to me,
these pictures, memories... are distorting my present,
speechlessness consuming my curious voice,
reddish pink are my eye balls,
soaked in the painful pool of my past.
Why let your memories hold you captive still?
Don't let the past dictate your present's will.
Is it hard to break free from the chains that bind you tight,
Your future awaits you to shine with a new light.
A new light is coming?
Heart quakes and lost ambitions are hardened chains,
strangling my attitude to the globe,
future shouldn't wait,
can it come to my mountain of hope?
Your mountain of hope, a signal in the night,
Awaits the dawn of freedom, and a heart alight.
Don't let the weight of chains, forged from pain and fear,
Hold you back from ascending to a future that's clear.
Heavy wind does not permit leaves to see one another,
Your words are pure as white chalk,
and I have begun to receive your faith-driven letter.
Wow! Your heart, once shrouded in darkness has now begun to see,
The power of hope and freedom, in you, has started to be.
The heavy winds of pain, that once obscured your sight,
Are lifting, as faith and hope have brought new light.
Oh Light!
What is the colour...what does light appear as?
Oh the wind can be ordered to display positively?
Poisonous past can be jailed without holding me along?
I would hurray if you leak me some more.
Oh, The light of hope and grace!
And yes, the wind can be tamed, and its power redirected to a gentle warmth that brightens the darkest of places.
The poisonous past can be locked away,
And you, dear one, can walk free, starting today.
