The unique thing about writers is:

They try to think beyond a common person's imagination. Obviously it's not necessary that every time they succeed because there are so many factors behind writing any piece. But they always try to give in their best so that they can reach more people and have the maximum fan base and become popular among the common public. 

Like any normal person they also have bad days which is also known as Writer's Block where they can't focus on the current Topic. But when they are at their best form you will see why they live up to their Titles and fight amongst the odds to stay at their best game. 

Every writer has their own format, style, thinking and understanding of the subject that's why you can always distinguish between everyone's writing style because you can only try to imitate someone but the original will always be original. You can always try to create more like them but they are not actually them and they have their own limitations. Some Poets and Authors may be loved more or less but that depends on Destiny and Fortune.
