ROMANTICISM:'IF I WERE FEMININE' BY MUMTAZ PARAMOLE
I would mother my husband like he were a child
I would sing sonorously every night till he falls asleep on my bosoms
I would randomly kiss his forehead to remind him that he is loved
I would hug him tightly and remind him that he is all I have
I would play with him like a new born child
I would make him cook for us while I stand behind him and fondle his behind
I would send flowers to his office, with hope that he blushes
I would text him all day reminding him of how much I want to be in his arms
I would retain the name “Habibi”, even after he becomes a father
I would not start calling him “Alhaji”, just because of the pilgrimage.
If I were feminine
I would stick around during hard times
I would let him be the man, and resist the urge to talk back while he speaks
I would treat and adore him with so much care and respect, he’ll wonder what spell has me so dazed
I would pray for him like a paid cleric
And always remind him that things would get better.
If I were feminine
I would listen to him as a father
I would care for him as a son
I would ease his urge as a man
If I were feminine
I would sometimes shout as mothers do
But I’ll resist the urge to throw a slipper like they do.
