DID ADAM HAVE ETERNAL LIFE?- BY PASTOR GREG ELKAN.
_And this is the promise that he has promised us, even eternal life._ – 1Jn2:25
Paul says in Rom 5:12 (GNB), _“Sin came into the world through one man, and his sin brought death with it...”_ In other words, death was a totally alien concept to this world before Adam’s Fall.
This then leads to a popular question, _“Doesn’t that now mean that Adam had eternal life before the Fall? After all, as long as he didn’t sin, he would continue to live forever without dying, wouldn’t he?”_
That question, however, is based on the assumption that what the New Testament calls _eternal (or everlasting) life_ is simply ‘not dying’. Nevertheless, there’s more to eternal life than simply living forever.
Eternal Life is not a QUANTITY of days but a QUALITY of life. Eternal Life is a nature, the very nature of God which Jesus came to give to us (Jn 10:10; 1Jn 1:2; 5:20).
Jesus said in John 10:27,28, _“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”_ It is possible to be saved and still not have an appreciation of what that means. There’s a difference between Adam’s life and the Christ-life. 1Co 15:45 (CEV) say _“The first man was named Adam, and the Scriptures tell us that he was a living person. But Jesus, who may be called the last Adam, is a life-giving spirit.”_
Eternal Life is something unique that Jesus came to give us; and Adam didn’t have it. Indeed, the mere fact that he was warned of possible death (Gen 2:17) is already an indicator of the kind of life that he had.
Adam acted in unbelief and plunged us all into death; but Jesus came to give us Life, His God-kind of life, _Eternal_ Life. Have you received it?
But these are written, that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you might have life through his name. – John 20:31
And this is the witness, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. – John 5:11
AMEN.
More Blessings await you today; you’ll not miss them in Jesus’ Name.
