'WE SERVE A GIVING GOD' BY PASTOR GREG ELKAN.
In Mt 8:1-4, a man with leprosy approached Jesus and begged, _“Lord, if You are willing, You have the power to make me clean.”_ (VW) This man knew that Jesus could heal him; the question was whether Jesus would.
If we were to be honest with ourselves, the issue when it comes to miracles is not whether God _can_ do it, but rather _if_ God would do it. As Believers, we most likely have enough evidence – both from Scripture and in real life – that God can do miraculous things in people’s lives. However, when it comes to us, that level of certainty seems to drop significantly.
A major cause of this mindset is a faulty understanding of God’s nature. We sometimes unconsciously project human traits and behaviour on God and deal with Him the way we would a human benefactor. Human beings can be good and generous; but they’re notoriously fickle, and rarely unprejudiced.
But, as Num 23:19 emphatically states, _God is not a man._ You don’t have to worry about His mood the time you approach Him; you don’t have to fear whether He’s in the ‘giving mode’ the day you need a miracle. God is ever generous, and God is ever unchanging.
Jas 1:5 says, _“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally…”_
In the original Greek rendition, the term “gives” _(didōmi)_ is used as an adjective. James literally said, _let him ask of *the giving-God…*_ In other words, James describes God as a God who gives. Giving is His nature, and He doesn’t just give, He gives “liberally;” (Jas 1:5).
Halleluiah! This truth should affect your prayer life and how you approach God the next time you need a miracle. You serve a giving God; He’s not just able, He’s also _willing_ to bless you.
AMEN
