'THE UNIQUE INSPIRATION OF THE BIBLE' BY PASTOR GREG ELKAN.
_“The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tested in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.”_ – Ps 12:6
_“ALL SCRIPTURE is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine…”_ –2Ti 3:16
The Inspiration of the Bible is a core affirmation of Christians. By “inspiration” they mean that though the Bible was written by men, its contents are not mere human words, but the words contain the very thoughts of God as God would have them written. Or, as the Apostle Peter puts it, _“No prophecy ever came from what some person wanted to say. But people were led by the Holy Spirit and spoke words from God.”_ 2Pe 1:19 (ERV).
Christians don’t just affirm that the Bible is God’s word, they also, (controversially), assert that the Bible is the _only_ book through which God has spoken to mankind!
As a Believer, you likely hold such views as well. But what evidence do you have to make such an audacious claim? Merely stating that the Bible and _only_ the Bible is God’s word based on your faith alone makes you come across to others as a bigot, a fanatic, or even ignorant.
As a Believer, in order for you to be a true witness of the Gospel, it’s important that you investigate the Bible yourself, and not simply parrot catchy apologetic bullet points. That way, you can – in Paul’s words – _“continue in the things which you have learned and have been *assured of,* knowing of whom you have learned them;”_ (2Tim 3:14).
These external and internal evidences of inspiration not only help boost your faith in God’s word but will also help you in the way you approach scripture in your studies, and also in your application of its truths to life.
AMEN.
