POETRY OF CONSCIOUSNESS_'FOR HOW LONG?' BY DEBORAH ENIOLA.
Lost in thought about life,
I wish I could unravel the mystery of life;
to see the reasons behind the struggles and toiling of humans,
not because we are poor but to attain our desires.
This life is a survival of the fittest,
how long can you endure and persevere
the hardship of struggling?
Many with a future left their home for the street to hustle;
striving hard to make ends meet each having a story to tell,
not because they wished to but they have a determination to be successful.
So as not to be a burden to anyone,
and not to be saying '' baba agbalagba twale", "ko por keh" to their mates.
Yet, they still hope everything will end in joy,
to enjoy the labour of their struggle.
Some born with a silver spoon,
do not know the pain of hardship and poverty.
Living a luxurious life on a platter of Glittering Gold,
not knowing the plight of those on the streets.
Some find it difficult to help and give; saying 'They are lazy', and some do it for their own benefit.
Not remembering that those who don't have today
will have tomorrow surely.
Learn to love just as the brotherhood on the street,
learn to give when others don't have.
We bring nothing into this world and take back nothing,
hustle so as to avoid stories that touches the heart,
we all still hope that we'll enjoy the labour of our struggles at last;
but For How Long?

The poet personae laments over the worsening situation of an environment whose name she refuses to mention; yet, she touches the heart of her readers well. The bard uses simple diction to show the discrimination of convenience between the rich and the poor.
