Duet - Diatribe ' HOME FRONT'

Beryl Otieno:
Unfaithfulness,
the home wrecking disease
has caught up with us,
shaking our foundation and
tearing us apart.

Mom's depressed
and he-
has been out a decade,
not looking back at his family.

We're hopeless and shuddered,
now once a happy home
is set upon fire
and I have a feeling that whatever was present amongst us
is gone.

Henry Amami:
The sadness in your lines,
tell tales deep beyond the surface.

It tells of how
boys become fathers
even before they know girls beyond being friends,
winning bread,
defending the home front.

It tells of how
girls become mothers
even before puberty, catering for siblings...
Supporting the home front.

It tells of how
teenagers left to fend for themselves
becomes vulnerable to the lure of the streets.

It tells of how
youths insecurably
sold their souls to dark forces,
just to eke out a living
in an uneven society.

It tells tales of
how mothers and sisters
becomes the target of inordinate urges
in the hands of skewed men
and brothers grow thick skin
to survive a day more,
on the fast lane.

Even at that, it tells of
The odd statistics of the 'crass to class' stories
of the very few that emerged
somewhat victorious on the other side.

When fathers absconders, the society grime's
the home front is left in disarray.
