ELEGAIC: "FORSAKEN HEART" BY AMB. BISHOP SAHR ISAAC PETERSON
She came like morning light,
She swore she truly loved,
I believed her every promise,
We started love so blindly,
I thought forever was ours,
But forever never truly lasted.
We played the game together,
Heartily without fear or doubt,
Losing no single precious temperament,
Giving her my best hours,
Loving her beyond all reason,
Holding nothing back from her.
Washing clothes day after day,
Cooking meals when she tired,
Waiting late under cold moonlight,
Carrying burdens she could not,
Loving her family as mine,
Her brothers knew me well.
Paid fees and school dues,
Spent my last coins gladly,
In the name of love,
I gave all I had,
Thinking love would remain forever,
Never thinking she would leave.
Then she changed without warning,
Her voice grew cold distant,
Messages turned short and empty,
She laughed no longer freely,
I saw ending coming slowly,
But still I held tightly.
One morning she was gone,
No goodbye no last explanation,
She left me broken abandoned,
Heart forsaken bleeding silently alone,
Our game ended without winner,
I lost everything that day.
Now I walk alone nightly,
Clothes unwashed heart still heavy,
Her family pretends not knowing,
Brothers pass me without greeting,
Love taught me bitter lesson,
I loved one who left.

“Forsaken Heart” by Amb. Bishop Sahr Isaac Peterson is a lyrical love poem that explores the pain of betrayal, abandonment, and unreciprocated sacrifice in a romantic relationship. The speaker recounts how he devoted himself wholeheartedly to his lover, caring for her, performing domestic duties, supporting her education financially, and treating her family as his own. Despite his sacrifices and unwavering commitment, his lover gradually becomes distant and eventually leaves without offering an explanation. Her departure leaves him emotionally devastated, while her family members act as though they no longer know him. Through this painful experience, the speaker reflects on the bitter reality that love and sacrifice do not always guarantee loyalty or permanence. The poem conveys a message about the vulnerability of the human heart and the emotional consequences of investing deeply in a relationship that ultimately fails.
