If I plant both of us some roses, 

Will you water and smell them

If I bring the meal on my horses

Will you set the pan and make the flame

If I wear my tux and my shining leather

Will you be in your heels and long dress

On the days life places me under the weather

Will you be my flow and my smoothness

And on the days of perpetual joy

When we run as ponies in summer hay

Will you be my princess; blushy and coy

And will you make this love tale flow in two ways

That I want to spend every day by your side

That I want to spend my whole life with you

Maurice N. Chiadzwa’s “Will You Marry Me?” is a romantic proposal poem in which the speaker expresses his desire to spend the rest of his life with the woman he loves. He imagines a relationship built on mutual care, cooperation, companionship, and shared responsibilities. Through images of planting roses, preparing meals, dressing for special occasions, and supporting each other during difficult times, the speaker presents marriage as a partnership in which both individuals contribute to one another’s happiness.

The speaker also imagines the joyful moments they would experience together, describing his beloved as a “princess” and expressing his desire for their love story to continue harmoniously. In the final stanza, he abandons the poetic imagery and states his feelings directly: he wants to spend every day and his entire life with her. The poem therefore culminates in a sincere marriage proposal, with the speaker asking Netsie to become his lifelong partner.
