LASU NON-TEACHING STAFF EDGE OUT TEACHING STAFF 4-2 ON PENALTIES IN NOVELTY MATCH TO HONOUR VC

In a novelty football match organised to honour the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi OLATUNJI-BELLO, mni, NPOM, the non-teaching staff defeated their teaching counterparts 4-2 on penalties.
The match, which was played at the Sports and Recreation Centre, Main Campus, Ojo, on Wednesday, 16th September 2026, was part of the activities organised to celebrate the Vice-Chancellor.

In her remarks, Professor OLATUNJI-BELLO thanked the sports-loving LASU community for its support throughout her five-year tenure, noting that all the achievements recorded were the result of collective effort. She wished the University continued success.
The Chairman of the Sports Council, Professor Simeon DOSUNMU, in his address, eulogised the second female Vice-Chancellor in the history of the University, describing her as a visionary leader, a sporting icon and a legacy for generations.

“Your contribution to sports in LASU is legendary. Under you, LASU did not just participate; it competed, conquered, and made memories. You saw sports not as extra-curricular activity,, but as an instrument of identity and victory for the University,” Professor DOSUNMU said. He added that she did not just lead a university, but built one.
Before kick-off, Distinguished Professor OLATUNJI-BELLO inspected both teams and performed the ceremonial kick-off alongside the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni AFISI, FSPSP, M.CIoD; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Toyin ENUKUOMEHIN, FAIMFIN, FAAAI; and the representative of the Bursar, Senior Deputy Bursar, Mr Jerry JINADU.
The encounter ended goalless in regulation time and proceeded to a penalty shoot-out. The non-teaching staff converted all four kicks, while the teaching staff scored two and missed two.
Goalkeeper Jonathan BALOGUN emerged as the hero of the match, saving one penalty during regulation time and two more during the shoot-out, with the final result being Non-Teaching 4 - 2 Teaching.
The trophy was presented by Professor OLATUNJI-BELLO to the captain of the non-teaching side, Dauda BELLO.
