SOUTH SOUTH HOSTS FINAL PHASE OF ANA'S NATIONWIDE COPYRIGHT CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME BY ANA MEDIA TEAM
The South South region is set to host the final phase of the Association of Nigerian Authors' (ANA) nationwide Capacity Building Workshop on Copyright, Reproduction Rights and Royalty Management.
Organised in collaboration with the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) and the Reproduction Rights Society of Nigeria (REPRONIG), the two-day workshop will take place on Friday, 10th July and Saturday, 11th July, 2026, at Ace Putor, University of Port Harcourt, East West Road, Choba, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, beginning at 9:00 a.m. daily.
The Port Harcourt workshop marks the culmination of a nationwide capacity-building programme that has successfully covered the country's six geopolitical zones.
The initiative commenced with the South West Regional Edition in Ibadan on 18th and 19th June, 2026, followed by the North Central Regional Edition on 26th and 27th June, 2026, and the combined North East/North West Regional Edition on 2nd and 3rd July, 2026.
The South East Regional Edition is scheduled for Wednesday, 8th July and Thursday, 9th July, 2026, immediately preceding the South South programme.
The nationwide workshop series is part of ANA's strategic commitment to strengthening the institutional capacity of its leadership in the areas of copyright protection, reproduction rights, collective rights management and royalty administration. Through the collaboration with NCC and REPRONIG, the programme is equipping chapter leaders with practical knowledge required to protect literary works, promote intellectual property rights and enhance royalty opportunities for authors.
Participation in the South South Regional Edition is strictly reserved for Chairmen and Secretaries of ANA State Chapters across the South South geopolitical zone.
The regional workshops are designed to empower chapter executives with the expertise needed to replicate similar training and awareness programmes within their respective states, thereby extending the impact of the initiative to the wider ANA membership.
The workshop will feature presentations by leading experts in copyright administration and the creative industries, including Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi, President of the Association of Nigerian Authors and Chief Host; Dr. Chioma Ezenwafor, Chief Executive Officer of SurThrive Media; Mr. Tosin Akeredolu, Director General of REPRONIG; Mr. T. M. Biriabebe, lawyer, author and public speaker; Mr. Abdulsalami B. Babatunde, State Director of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Rivers State; and Prof. Obari Gomba, distinguished writer and literary scholar.
The successful regional editions held across the country have reaffirmed the importance of sustained capacity building in promoting copyright awareness and strengthening the professional competence of literary leaders.
They have also highlighted the value of the partnership between ANA, NCC and REPRONIG in advancing the protection of authors' rights and improving knowledge of reproduction rights and royalty management within Nigeria's literary community.
As the South South region hosts the concluding phase of the nationwide programme, ANA, in partnership with NCC and REPRONIG, continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to building a knowledgeable, effective and copyright-conscious leadership across its state chapters.
The completion of the regional workshops represents another significant milestone in the Association's efforts to protect the intellectual property of Nigerian authors and foster a more sustainable literary ecosystem.
