SATIRICAL: "THE CIRCUS OF LOST CIVILITY" BY SOMDATTA MITRA
They nest in the echoes of noise and drama,
Enlivening their spirits with profound ignorance.
Their daylight resounds with relentless clamour,
Baking hollow egos in the oven of self-importance.
They remain unconcerned by their neighbours' deepest pain,
Reverberating deliberate pangs like carnival revelers.
They stir the sauce of discord ,
in the cauldron of vanity.
Their mentality is a jug of stale unconcern,
Carelessly cultivating the fungus of arrogance and apathy.
Churning the entire atmosphere into a factory of hopeless commotion,
Where obstinacy rises like smoke from the furnace of inflated egos.
The louder they engage in those desperate head-to-head spectacles,
The farther wisdom retreats from their company.
They are too naïve to recognize the responsibilities of good citizenship;
Their indulgences are like medals proudly pinned upon the uniform of irresponsibility.
As though thoughtlessness were the highest civic honour,
How they tried to push it further with their non - chalance.
They are the cheerleaders of their own periphery,
Unconcerned as they poison the wells of neighbourly harmony.
Never heeding the agonies of those,
Who quietly pay the admission fee to their daily circus.
They are the architects of their own lonely empire,
Where silence becomes a refugee in the wilderness of clamour.

This poem is a satirical reflection on the lack of civic responsibility among some neighbours whose constant shouting, quarrelling, and noise disrupt the peace and tranquillity of an entire community. Despite repeated reminders and requests, they remain indifferent to the discomfort caused to others. Through irony and symbolism, the poem advocates mutual respect, consideration, and harmonious coexistence.
