CAN LITERATURE REALLY SHAPE MORAL VALUES IN SOCIETY?_ BY VINCENT HOSU

Stories are more than just entertainment. Whether it’s a novel, a poem, or even a short story, literature gives us a window into other people’s lives. It lets us see different choices, consequences, and ways of thinking. Sometimes, it makes us feel empathy for people we would normally ignore. Other times, it challenges what we believe is right or wrong, without directly telling us what to think.

But here’s the reality; not everyone reads with that level of attention. Some people just read to pass time, and that’s fine. It means literature doesn’t automatically change society. Its influence depends on how deeply people connect with it.

Still, the impact of a powerful story shouldn’t be underestimated. A single book or poem can stay in your mind for years. It can quietly shape your attitude, your judgments, and even your behavior without you realizing it.

So yes, literature can shape moral values, but it’s not magic. It works slowly, through reflection and personal connection.

At the end of the day, stories don’t just tell us about the world, they can also change how we live in it.
