THE TAPE OF MY MOTHER
My mother left me with the neighbor and never came back — 35 years later, I found a TAPE she had hidden in our basement.
When I was three years old, my mom asked her friend who lived next door to watch me for a few hours while she stepped out to run some errands.
She never returned.
I was tiny and don't remember much about my biological mother, but I do recall that about a week before she disappeared, she was constantly arguing with someone on the phone.
She would lock herself in her bedroom and sob.
The police never found her car — they never found anything. She just vanished, as if she had never existed.
My mom's friend had known me since I was born. She adopted me and raised me as her own daughter.
I had no other relatives, and my biological father had died before I was born.
I moved to another city, built a career, and started my own family.
But I could never bring myself to sell my MOM'S HOUSE.
I couldn't live there, and I couldn't sell it either. That house was the last thing I had left of my biological mother.
Still, I finally decided it was time.
I travelled back to my hometown, went into the house, and started cleaning it up before putting it up for sale.
After tidying the main floor, I went down to the basement.
I was moving some old loads around when I noticed a section of the wooden wall was loose.
I knocked on it, and it sounded hollow. I pulled the loose board away, revealing a small opening behind it.
Something was concealed there.
I reached in and pulled out an old VHS tape.
There was a handwritten label on it: "FOR MY BELOVED DAUGHTER."
My heart was racing.
I still had an old VCR in one of the rooms — the same one I used to watch cartoons on as a kid.
I ran upstairs and immediately put the tape in.
The screen flickered — and then my mother appeared.
I recognized her instantly.
Something inside me broke.
I COVERED MY MOUTH TO KEEP FROM SCREAMING. ⬇️
