MOM'S WISDOM IN THE WAITING_ BY MISS MIMIE
Joy comes in the morning, but I'm tired. The pleasures of the world, they slip by. Sometimes I just want to be in love; sometimes I can't do this on my own. Everything isn't in my power; I just want to be in love. Nothing they threw at me, I wouldn't fall. I can't do this on my own.
l: Hey Mom, can I talk to you about something?
Mom: Of course, sweetie, what's going on?
l: It's just...every relationship I get into, it falls apart. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I thought I was doing everything right, but it just doesn't seem to work out.
Mom: Aw, baby, I'm so sorry to hear that. But you know what they say, "the Lord works in mysterious ways". Have you been reading your Bible lately? I want you to read Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart."
l: (sigh) Yeah, Mom, I've read it. But it feels like I'm doing everything and it's just not working. Like, I was with this guy and I thought we were good, but he just...he lost his job and everything changed.
Mom: I see. Well, have you considered that maybe this is a time for you to grow and learn? Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
l: (frustrated) Mom, I know you mean well, but it feels like I'm just stuck in this cycle. I get into a relationship, and it's great at first, but then it falls apart. What's wrong with me?
Mom: Sweetie, nothing's wrong with you. You're a wonderful person, and you deserve love and happiness. But maybe we need to focus on your relationship with God. Have you been praying about this?
l: (hesitant) Yeah...I have.
Mom: Okay, good. Because Isaiah 41:10 says, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." You're not alone in this, baby.
l: (tearfully) I just feel like I'm never going to find someone, Mom. Like, I'm just going to be alone forever.
Mom: (soothingly) Oh, sweetie, don't say that. You're going to find someone when the time is right. And even if you don't, you're not alone. You have me, you have your family, and you have God. And remember, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says, "Love is patient, love is kind...it bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." Love is not about what you can get, it's about what you can give.
l: (sniffling) Thanks, Mom. That helps a bit.
Mom: Anytime, baby. I'll always be here for you. Now, come give Mom a hug.
