_From my chats with writers_
For me, it has been much easier reaching the global community than reaching the Nigerian community when it comes to literature. Nigeria is a very culture and trend oriented place. It is not very often that people stray from the trend and set out on their own in search of individual tastes. My writings have been published in Nigeria, and some African countries and globally. However, it is the western publications that create the most buzz. I pushed my debut novel _Fimà sÃlẹ̀ Forever: Heaven Gave It to Me_ to be published in Nigeria or somewhere in Africa, the doors were not opening, but it gained international acclaim for its bold, tender exploration of queer identity, faith, and resistance in Nigeria. I am immensely grateful for what has come from being a published and shortlisted novelist. But it is very saddening that more often than not for Nigerian writers the Nigerian doors are only open when the west christens you as good enough.
