NUC TEAMS IMPRESSED WITH LASU AFTER RESOURCE ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION EXERCISE

The National Universities Commission (NUC) teams have expressed satisfaction and commendation for Lagos State University (LASU) following the successful conduct of a resource assessment and accreditation exercise at the institution.

This was contained in the teams’ reports presented during an exit meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi *OLATUNJI-BELLO*, mni, NPOM, and other Principal Officers. The meeting was held at the Conference Room of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Sixth Floor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos, on Monday, 9th February 2026.

In their separate reports, members of the NUC teams applauded the University for its remarkable development and growth, based on the facilities and resources inspected. They, however, highlighted certain areas where further improvements were required.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the teams for what she described as a painstaking peer review exercise. She assured them that Management had carefully noted their observations and would take the necessary steps to address them.

Earlier in the day, while formally receiving the NUC Resource Assessment and Accreditation teams at the Senate Chamber, Professor OLATUNJI-BELLO informed the visitors that the University Management was fully prepared for the dual exercise involving resource assessment and accreditation of selected academic programmes.

She described the exercise as a critical component of quality assurance and reiterated Management’s commitment to academic excellence and the holistic development of students. According to her, LASU produces highly intelligent and resourceful graduates.

“LASU combines both physical and virtual learning in teaching students. We equally deploy e-resources to support learning. LASU remains the most advanced digital state university in Nigeria. We recognise that this exercise is a peer review, and we are fully prepared and hopeful of success. You will receive full support from the Faculties and maximum cooperation,” she stated.

The Vice-Chancellor concluded her remarks by encouraging members of the teams to take time to experience the attractions of Lagos, including its beaches, lagoon, and the Blue Rail Line.

Speaking on behalf of the NUC teams, the Team Lead for Special Education, Professor Ajibade OYELOYE, described LASU and the Commission as partners in progress. He emphasised that the exercise was a peer review and not a witch-hunt, and assured that the teams would carry out their duties diligently and make recommendations where necessary.

Similarly, the Representative of the Executive Secretary, NUC, Mrs Roseline *ODUEKA*, affirmed that the teams would discharge their responsibilities objectively, adding that their ultimate goal was to contribute towards making LASU a better institution. She also commended the University Management for the warm hospitality extended to the teams.

In his remarks, Professor Bassey *ESU* noted that the exercise was designed to validate available resources, expressing confidence that LASU had exceeded the Commission’s expectations.
