LASU DVC UNDERSCORES ETHICAL CULTURE AS THE FOUNDATION FOR TRUST, PROGRESS AND SUSTAINABILITY

In a world where trust is fast becoming a scarce currency, Lagos State University (LASU) is steadily positioning itself as a moral compass for ethical leadership and professional integrity. This was clearly reflected when the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Oseni Taiwo Afisi, delivered a compelling keynote address at the Ethics in Business and Professions Seminar organised by the Ethics in Business and Professions Committee of the Rotary Club District 9112.

The programme, held on Wednesday, 28th January 2026, at the Keystone Bank Hall, Rotary Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, was themed “Building Trust and Integrity: The Foundation of Ethical Business and Professional Practice.”

Speaking on the keynote topic, “Building Ethical Culture in an Organization: An Essential for Progress and Sustainability,” Prof. Afisi emphasised that ethical culture is not an optional ideal but the very foundation upon which sustainable organisations are built. He noted that organisations must be seen not just as systems of productivity, but as “moral environments that shape character, habits, and choices.”

Drawing from virtue ethics, he stressed that true integrity goes beyond written policies, adding that “trust is not manufactured by slogans but earned through repeated acts of honesty, fairness, and accountability.” According to him, leaders play a critical role as “moral architects whose actions silently define what is truly valued within an organisation.”

Prof. Afisi further stressed that organisations that reward compromise over conscience risk long-term collapse, stating that “the greatest tragedy is not failure, but success without integrity.” He encouraged professionals to embrace ethics as a daily personal commitment rather than a ceremonial obligation.

The insightful keynote reinforced LASU’s growing reputation as an institution committed not only to academic excellence, but also to provide thought leadership in ethics, governance, and societal development.

Through intellectual engagements of this nature, the University continues to project itself as a forward-thinking institution shaping responsible leaders for both public and private sectors.

We are LASU, We are Great!
