AMATORY: "WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME?" BY MAURICE N CHIADZWA
He was the genius
She was the gorgeous
The story felt obvious
Before 'he' came along...
He showed great determination
She followed his ambition
So clear, was their vision
Before 'he' came along...
Grew up in the dusts of a compound
Where nothing around seemed sound
But they beat the odds out of the ground
Before 'he' came along...
Both made it to college
Took their lives on to a new page
And their love onto the next stage
Before 'he' came along...
From kissing and teasing in corridors
To study nights and setting goals
Spreading wings and opening new doors
Before 'he' came along
While he majored in construction
She majored in administration
A brawn and beauty combination
Before he came along...
Goals, grades and each other
Inseparable, always together
Grew up, grew closer and grew better...
Before 'he' came along...
Then returned to their old story
In those ruins, they found glory
But still, it was before the worries
Before 'he' came along...
He got a job reconstructing
A future for his people in those ruins
And a new story would begin
When 'he' came along...
Then he finished his service
His girl now took a new place
Next to a 'man' bringing the town to a new pace
When 'he' came along...
And in a stream of complicated events
'He' gave her her dream, or something equivalent
When 'he' came along...
A dawn of tensions
Rays of unclear intentions
Feelings that could not be publicly mentioned
After 'he' had come along...
Will she leave him?
To go live with 'him'...
Is this a nightmare or a fulfilled dream?
Now that 'he' has come along...
When she seemed like caught between two men
One who was with her since back then
And 'another' who seemed to want to save her pains
Everything broke loose, When 'he' came along....

This poem's a gripping tale of love, ambition, and complicated choices. It follows a couple's journey from humble beginnings to success, disrupted by a new player. The speaker's nostalgic tone and rhetorical questions ("Will she leave him?") create tension, leaving the reader wonderin' what'll happen next. The use of repetition ("Before 'he' came along") emphasizes the impact of this newcomer on their lives.
