WORD FOR TODAY: UNDERSTANDING- BY GREG ELKAN
_“By now you should be teachers...”_ – Heb 5:12 (GW)
The next level after remembering in Bloom’s six levels of learning is Understanding.
A student at this level should not just be able to memorize a concept but should also be able to interpret, summarize, and explain it in their own words.
Unfortunately, this is an area where many Believers are lacking. They can quote tons of scriptures, but aren’t really able to tell _what_ those verses are about. While this may be understandable for theologically complex passages like the prophecies of Daniel or the apocalypse of John, there is sadly too many Christians today who show little to no understanding of what well-known passages are about.
This was the case with the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8. He was a devout man who was religiously reading the scriptures, but he lacked understanding of what he was reading. Thankfully, unlike many today, he was humble enough to admit that he did not know the meaning of what he was reading.
Beloved, that the words you are reading sound spiritual does not mean that you understand it; that it has been your memory verse for decades does not mean that you understand them; that it is the anchor verse of your church or denomination does not mean that you understand it.
Take that verse you have always taken for granted, yes, even if it is John 3:16, and ask yourself _“Do I really understand what these words mean?”_ Only when we approach the Bible with that mindset will we truly begin to grow in God’s word, and hence grow spiritually.
This may not be comfortable reading, but _“Consider what I say; and the Lord give you understanding in all things._” 😊
AMEN
More Blessings await you today; you’ll not miss them in Jesus’ Name.
