Manchester City's impressive trophy haul under Pep Guardiola's leadership - 18 titles, including six Premier League crowns and a UEFA Champions League win - makes their current trophy-less season all the more surprising. Several factors have contributed to this downturn, including injuries, tactical vulnerabilities, and a loss of hunger for success.

The team's tactical approach has shown significant cracks, with poor box defending, lack of focus on the back line, and an inefficient high press leaving them vulnerable to crosses and counter-attacks. Injuries to key players like Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish have further exacerbated these issues.

Moreover, City's over-reliance on central attacking play has become a glaring vulnerability, particularly with the absence of midfield stalwarts like Rodri and De Bruyne. The team's defense has been porous, struggling to organize quickly enough to thwart counter-attacks. Despite dominating possession, they've conceded an average of 1.4 goals per game, a significant increase from last season's 0.9 goals per game.

Having conquered virtually every major competition, it's possible that City's relentless hunger for success has waned. Maintaining physical and mental endurance without the drive to chase unattainable goals becomes increasingly challenging.

To regain their trophy-winning form, Guardiola may need to adapt his tactics. Teams have learned to counter City's high press and possession-based style, sitting deep and limiting their ability to force turnovers in dangerous areas. City's hallmark high press has lost its edge, and opponents have learned to absorb the pressure more effectively.
