JEREMIAD: "ECHOES OF DESPAIR" BY SAVANNAH INKS

Dim phantoms scrutinize unyielding firmaments,
Fading through blistering, unremitting sun.
Void orbs squint to an imperious heliosphere,
Queryingly meditating on ephemeral, obliviating deities.

Down in squalid, festering dumps they ambulate,
Battling tempests of suffocating, particulate dusts.
Ears attuned for messianic cues,
To barren skies, they gaze supplicatingly.

Varicosed, craggy hands convulse,
Shaky under ponderous, rusty bowls.
Knob-kneed legs creakingly totter,
Tortured by tonnage of decrepit, arthritic bones.

In long, serpentine queues of protracted wait,
Hunger-contoured, morose masks radiate
Unsung elegies of anguish and desolation,
Lamentations of unrelenting, visceral hunger.

Barefoot, they tread on scorching, calcinated ground,
Weary footsteps echoing through creepy ghost towns.
Their eyes, once luminous, now dim with dolor,
Their future precarious, their present in futility.

In the creepy abyss of tenebrous darkness,
Ripple echoes of plaintive pleas,
Gagged wails in gloomy wilderness,
Amidst shards of eclipsed dreams.

Souls shatter at creeping doom,
In dreamless nights of debilitated rascals,
Mute congregations of tight bundles,
Pangs of hunger gnaw with epigastric ache.

Where tomorrow becomes a curse,
Eclipsed hope clogs grey horizons,
In echoes of mournful elegies
Melodies of perpetual anguish

The poet persona laments over the hardship that consumes the welfare of citizens. The masses keep begging_for the available is not enough to be invested. The voice fears that tomorrow maybe the same as the present.
