YORÙBÁ YOUTH AMBASSADOR CONFERENCE 1.0: BEHOLD OUR FATHER OF THE DAY, ARABA IFAYEMI ELEBUIBON
Araba Ifayemi Elebuibon is a distinguished Yoruba writer, poet, author, linguist, and Ifa priest, renowned for his tireless efforts in promoting and preserving Yoruba culture and traditions. Born in 1947 in Osogbo, Nigeria, he hails from a lineage of esteemed hunters, priests, herbalists, and warriors.
Elebuibon's journey as an Ifa priest began at the tender age of 4, under the guidance of his father. He underwent rigorous training in the traditional arts until his father's passing when he was 10. He then continued his training under Chief Faniyi Ajani, becoming an official Babalawo at 20.
As a cultural advisor, actor, and playwright, Elebuibon has made significant contributions to the preservation and promotion of Yoruba culture. He has published several books and papers in both Yoruba and English, and his traditional Yoruba plays have been widely acclaimed.
Determined to conserve Yoruba history and culture, Elebuibon established several cultural institutions in Nigeria, including Ancient Philosophy International in Osogbo. This centre is dedicated to teaching African Traditional Religion and Performing Arts.
His efforts have been recognized globally, leading to the Osun-Osogbo Grove being named a UNESCO World Heritage site. Furthermore, UNESCO declared the Ifa Divination System in Nigeria as one of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, worthy of preservation and protection.
Today, Elebuibon continues to champion Yoruba culture, traditional religion, and the Ifa Divination System, inspiring generations to appreciate and value their heritage.
