"ONE DAY, INEVITABLE DAY" BY SULAIMON KHALID

One day, I will leave the world and never come back
One day, I will face the grave, and never turn back
One day, I will be placed in a box, very dark.

One day, my voice will remain mute, and can't sing any song
One day, the mouth won't open, talking of moving the tongue
One day, my body will remain lifeless for long.

One day, death will come, and tell me I'm done
One day, I will wake up and see the last sun
One day, my heart will stop beating, and life will be gone.

One day, eyes won't see, and ears won't hear me anymore
One day, moving and dancing won't be anymore
But in hearts, I will exist long, for sure.

One day, the maggots will be happy to see my body
The sand, will forget that I've once been a living body
One day, life will forget my name, and call me dead body.

That day, still far, not today, not tomorrow
But the day that I've reaped everything I sow
That day, not now, but when my name, everybody knows.

That one day, not soon, but when I've grown old
And my story will still remain to be told
My impact will be a rare treasure, like gold.

The poet persona is aware of his death on a special day. The voice is certain that death would come. Yet, the bard says he would have laid positive legacies before his death comes.
