ODE: "SCARS" BY SAVANNAH INKS
Invisible tattoos etched on dark souls,
Unceded burdens of war-torn mothers
Gagging acrid wails of a cruel fate,
Captives forced to conceive under duress
Beyond the void,flat gray eyes,
Filter wafts from smouldering ruins
Where litigating,charred corpses askew,
Query voids of apathetic space
The cherished home she lost in time,
Swapped for sapping yoke in eerie forests
From aromatic dormitories to foul barracks,
An innocence hijacked by drooling hyenas
Scarred, worn bodies are flashed in shame,
Torn like the cursed grim, serene battlefields
Corrupted minds,a maze forever breached,
Trapped in minds of tested unsavory pasts
Scars of war burrow deep and wide,
Nagging reminders of pain long throttled
Emotional toll heavy hearts to bear,
Torrid lifetimes with no escape to share
Suffer,cursed children of violent acts,
Constant reminders of the trauma exact
Beaming smiles,a bittersweet,painful sight,
Blending joy and grief on dead of night
Weighty gazes mirror a mother's anguish,
Nagging reminders of stinging scars
Lost in worlds of numbed emotions,
Trapped in crisis of queried identity
Yet,bold like phoenixes,they rise,
Surmounting from cold,impotent ashes
To glowing embers through dark night,
Healing to shine with all their might.

The poet persona laments the pains which the Chibok girls go through; with also admitting that these involved girls are willing to rise after the
shocking situations which they have passed through.
