ODE: 'WELL, IT HAS BEEN LONG...' BY AJAKAYE STRIDA

Don't be in a haste to know 'what has been long',
there is one Adunni so important to me,
in the arms of my own Adunnimi,
I feel like an invaluable drop of water in desert,
I see her kiss me with the warmth of absolute motherhood,
ready to clasp me with her purity of affection,
the breath of my Adunni's arms.

In the classroom of my own Adunnimi,
I write instructions and gather parables of discipline,
I raise my hands to answer humility,
I will never tell you she is a mightily magnetic goddess...
The rich taste of my Adunni's classroom.

In the eyes of my own Adunni's anger,
I see her hunting misfortune in the forest,
I see real love in her annoyance,
her anger is clean and crafted for positivity..
The meaning behind my Adunni's reprimands.

In the heart of Adunni's Rashidat,
it has been long
I spilled my lines about her.
This is not just literature,
for I am commanding creativity to say 'Salam Alaykum' to Adunni mi owon.
I have lettered My Mother,
Now... I have released the guilt of 'what has been long'.
