SWEAT-LESS MIRACLES BY PASTOR GREG ELKAN.
We serve a giving-God who liberally gives to all and upbraids not. God is love (1Jn 4:8), and His benevolence is a natural expression of His nature. Whenever you need a miracle, you must make sure you don’t approach Him the way other people approach their demonic or man-made ‘gods’. Giving is a big deal to these demons and as such they require much sacrifice, many invocations, and much solicitation before they’d deign to consider a request.
But our God is not like that. The Bible says in Pro 10:22 that _“the blessing of the LORD, it makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.”_ the Hebrew term for “sorrow” in that verse _(etseb)_ means “painful labour, hardship or mental/physical pain. That verse is saying, unequivocally, that God does not require you to go through painful rigour before He accedes to your request.
He’s not going require you to climb a thousand steps up a certain temple because your request is ‘special’. He’s not going to ask you to approach Him crawling on your knees for a hundred metres to show how desperate you need the miracle. Neither is He going to ask you what great sacrifice you brought to warrant you asking such a big request. When we approach God with such mindset, we impugn His omnibenevolence (perfect goodness) and treat Him as a begrudging God who needs ‘motivation’ before He would help.
The BBE rendition of the latter part of Pr 10:22 says, _“…hard work makes it no greater.”_ And the AMP reads, _“…neither does toiling increase it”_ In other words, your self-inflicted pain and discomfort does not increase your chances of receiving from God because that is not how He operates. In the showdown between Elijah and the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel (1Ki 18:17-46), it was the pagan prophets that needed to cut themselves in order for their God to intervene (vs28); all Elijah needed to do was pray (vs37).
Beloved, Rom 8:32 says _“He that spared not his own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”_ So be encouraged; we serve a loving, giving God who is more than willing to intervene in our affairs – when we come to Him in faith.
AMEN
GREG ELKAN.
