Eulogy ' IKU (DEATH) '

IKÚ

Ìpìlẹ̀ ìjayà, igbẹyin òhun gbogbo.

Ikú, ìbàjé ọlá.

Owó ńlá ẹ tún fọ́lẹ́ agbọ̀ń ẹ̀dá.

Bàbá àbùkù, ọba àrífíń,

Erùpẹ̀ lásán ni ó ń yí èmi sì,

Ódélé jígí, fọ́jú fọ́ra.

Ikú, àlejò ọ̀sáń gangan,

Ìlù tí a ó gbà, tó ń dùn.

Baálè ilé ebi èmi,

Takọ tabo ó má yàtọ̀ lọ́ọ̀dẹ̀ rẹ̀.

Àgbà afọ́jú ni kabiyesi,

Kò má sààlà láàárín tọmọdé tàgbà,

Ikú, ó sì wá wẹ̀wù sùúrù kí ó de adé èbùrẹ́.

Fún wa laye ẹran jíjẹ kí ó tó kó egungun rẹ̀.

*DEATH*

Fear's own pillar, life's omega,

death, wealth's destruction,

its strong hands, swiftly destroys man's living.

Respect is no virtue for this king,

dust is what he alters souls,

extinction is just a mere drop in his ocean.

Death, an august visitor

with no sound, his noise is heard,

life's sole father,

sexes mean no importance to him.

Though, a blind king is what he is,

he knows no boundaries between the young and the old.

Death, please wear clothes and crown of patience,

let's reap our fruits before you uproot the trees.
